Mexico Volcanoes

Pico de Orizaba, 18,405 and Iztaccihuatl (Ixta), 17,342 ft. are both excellent introductions to high altitude and a good step toward advancing your expedition and climbing skills. From Mexico City, we first climb Iztaccihuatl, which lies directly across the valley from the still smoldering and extremely active Volcano Popocateptl. Our program includes several days of acclimatization, one of the more important considerations to climbing the volcanoes of Mexico. We will have some time to explore the markets of Amecameca and Tlachichuca before each peak. After Ixta we travel to Mexico’s highest summit, Pico de Orizaba. Ixta is mostly rock scrambling and Orizaba is moderate snow and ice climbing, both at high altitude. We also plan to see the Pyramids of Teotihuacan near Mexico City on our way. A fun, shorter trip into the high mountains of Mexico!
